Inland's HeartFirst Receives Certification

Date Given: 5/3/2017 12:00:00 AM

Inland Hospital’s Heart First service is proud to have recently attained two special certifications. Heart First’s Marden Cardiac Rehab Center has achieved re-certification, and the Pulmonary Rehab program has earned its first-time certification by the American Association of Cardiovascular and Pulmonary Rehabilitation (AACVPR).
This is the third time the Marden Cardiac Rehab Center has received the prestigious recognition, which lasts for three years.  Both the cardiac and pulmonary rehab programs participated in an application process that required extensive documentation of the programs’ practices.
AACVPR Program Certification is the only peer-review accreditation process designed to review individual programs for adherence to standards and guidelines developed and published by AACVPR and other professional societies. AACVPR-certified programs are recognized as leaders in the field of cardiovascular and pulmonary rehabilitation because they offer the most advanced practices available.
Cardiovascular and pulmonary rehab programs are designed to help people with cardiovascular problems (heart attaches, coronary artery bypass graft surgery) and pulmonary problems (chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, respiratory symptoms,) recover faster and improve their quality of life. Both programs include exercise, education, counseling, and support for patients and their families.
About Inland’s cardiac and pulmonary rehab programs at Heart First
The Marden Cardiac Rehab Center offers an 8-12 week, professionally supervised and monitored exercise program which includes education and counseling. The following services are also offered: cardiac stress testing, electrocardiogram, echocardiogram, nuclear cardiac imaging, and vascular imaging. In addition, Inland provides patients who need advanced cardiac care seamless access to Eastern Maine Medical Center, Inland’s sister hospital in the EMHS network.
The Pulmonary Rehab Program at The Marden Cardiac Rehab Center consists of a team of specialists who help improve the well-being of patients who have chronic lung problems. Pulmonary Rehab, in tandem to the patient’s medical therapy, includes exercise and strength training, nutritional counseling, lung condition education and how to manage it, energy conservation techniques, breathing strategies, and stress management and anxiety control. The Pulmonary Rehab Program is tailored to each individual’s abilities and needs; even for those with advanced lung problems.
Both cardiac and pulmonary programs are part of Inland’s Heart First service, which also includes Heart First Cardiology Associates and Heart First Diagnostics. Central to the core mission is improvement in quality of life for patients and their families.
