Inland Participates in Healthy Places for Healthy People

Release Date: 06/29/2017

Inland Hospital is proud to be involved with “Healthy Places for Healthy People”, a new EPA Smart Growth program, designed to engage with community leaders and health care partners to create walkable, healthy, economically vibrant downtowns and neighborhoods.  An EPA team led workshops in Waterville with community leaders and members on June 26 and 27 to develop an action plan to improve health, protect the environment, and support economic growth.

The City of Waterville is one of only 10 communities in the nation chosen for this planning assistance program from 50 that applied. Ellen Wells, Inland’s community wellness team leader and a board member for Healthy Northern Kennebec, said, “I believe and have seen over the years how collaboration works to create environmental change.” Healthy Northern Kennebec is a community based coalition whose mission is to improve public health in Northern Kennebec by engaging the community, assessing needs, and planning actions for success.
