Primary Care Office Consolidations

Release Date: 12/04/2017

At Inland, our #1 priority is the health and wellness of our patients. Providing respectful, attentive, compassionate care is our goal every day. In an effort to continue to improve access and service, we are looking closer at how and where we deliver primary care in our region.

The fact is that there is a shortage of family medicine doctors nationwide and it has become more and more challenging to recruit providers to rural areas like North Anson and elsewhere. This reality has caused us to plan for a better, more sustainable way to provide primary care.

One of the ways is for us to consolidate two Inland Family Care offices so that our patients can have access to a larger healthcare team to better serve their needs. Over the next two months, we will be merging our practice in North Anson with our office in Madison (located at 344 Lakewood Drive), and bringing our Inland Family Care office on Washington Street in Waterville together with our team at the downtown Waterville practice (16 Concourse West). This allows for more healthcare providers to be on a patient’s medical team, which is designed to improve ongoing care, access and service.

“This model of care will help us better serve our patients so that they can continue to count on us for primary care,” says Dan Booth, Vice President of Inland Hospital. “It certainly was a difficult decision for us to consolidate practices, and we recognize that these changes may be challenging for patients. That’s why we are working with all our patients to welcome them to a new practice and to connect them with an Inland provider.” Booth continues, “With the shortage of family doctors across the country, we have been unable to recruit new physicians to places like North Anson. The situation is not sustainable. We are striving to create a delivery system that helps patients receive primary care services now and well into the future.”

We have notified patients about the changes through letters, and we are holding Patient Forums to speak directly with the community. Forums were held at the North Anson practice on November 29 and 30 with another Forum set for Tuesday, December 5 at 6:00pm. The Forums at the Washington Street practice will be held on December 6 at Noon and 1:00pm and December 7 at 3:00pm and 4:00pm.
