Inland Awarded Elite Distinction

Inland Hospital in Waterville has been named a Top Rural Hospital for the second time in three years by the Leapfrog Group.

The selection is based on the results of the Leapfrog Group’s annual hospital survey, which measures hospitals’ performance on patient safety and quality, focusing on three critical areas of hospital care: how patients fare, resource use, and management practices that prevent errors.

Inland receives Award from United Way

Inland received the prestigious George R. Keller award for outstanding leadership with our in-house campaign. We were also recognized for threading this year’s theme of “Opening Doors, Creating Hope” throughout our campaign, including at the kickoff and finale…all the while making if fun for Inland employees!

Inland Awarded “A” for Patient Safety

Inland Hospital was honored with an “A” Hospital Safety Score by The Leapfrog Group, an independent national nonprofit run by employers and other large purchasers of health benefits. The A score was awarded in the latest update to the Hospital Safety ScoreSM website.

Bravo! Fall Pops Concert

Anthem Blue Cross Award Helps in Seven Maine Counties

BREWER, ME – (July 2, 2012) –
When Eastern Maine Health System (EMHS) received the Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield Foundation Youth Health Lifestyle Program (YHLP) grant two years ago, the hope was to touch 10,000 children across the Eastern Maine Healthcare Systems service area. Instead, the program reached more than 40,000 children in a seven county area. Here are a few highlights from the grant:

For two years, Sandra has been a cheerful, helpful volunteer in Inland’s front lobby and gift shop. Her smile is infectious and her warm, positive attitude is comforting – especially if you’re entering the hospital for a test or procedure – she genuinely cares about every person and you can feel it.

Success in Journey to be the Best Rural Healthcare System in America

(BREWER, ME) – June 19, 2012 –
It was in 2007 that EMHS set forth to achieve its vision - to be the best rural healthcare system in America by (September 30) 2012. A process was established to measure success, and systemwide goals were set around many initiatives, including employee retention, well workplace programs, improving patient satisfaction, physician practice quality, and chronic disease care management. While we know we still have much work to do, we’re proud to say that we’ve realized incredible success through this work, with many of our goals being achieved or surpassed.

Inland/Lakewood participate in National Trails Day

Inland and Lakewood employees accompanying some of Lakewood's residents in wheelchairs participated in the National Trails Day celebration in Waterville on June 2. The local trails activity organized by Kennebec Messalonskee Trails started at the North Street trailhead, where dozens of people travelled to the Head of Falls at the Two Cent Bridge to celebrate the opening of the Waterville Connector Trail. The trail, which is handicapped accessible, continues on the other side of the bridge around Scott Park in Winslow.

Heart First Receives Quality Recognition

Heart First Cardiology Associates, in Waterville, has been awarded the Bridges to Excellence® Cardiology Practice Recognition for meeting rigorous thresholds established by the American College of Cardiology and Bridges to Excellence®. Heart First, a department of Inland Hospital, is the first cardiology practice in Maine and one of only 15 practices nationwide to receive the prestigious award.

Transforming Care at the Bedside

Over the past year, Inland Hospital has been involved with improving the quality of care provided by implementing Transforming Care at the Bedside (TCAB); this process engages nurses and other key hospital staff in testing improvements that can lead to processes and procedures that are more reliable, safe and patient-centered. This in turn leads to improved teamwork and a more engaged workforce, not to mention the most important goal – increasing nurse’s time at the bedside.

Inland celebrates Leap Year baby

Inland celebrated the hospital’s first Leap Year baby. On February 29, Anthony Garrett was born at 8am to Lisa McWhorter and Ken Crader of Oakland. He weighed 9 pounds, 4 ounces and was 21 inches long. Anthony is the couple’s second son.

Inland Hospital welcomes Ansi Pillai, MD, a board-certified Internal Medicine physician.

Dr. Pillai joins Dr. Uzma Naaz and Robert Cianfarano, PA-C at Inland Medical Associates, 174 Kennedy Memorial Drive in Waterville. She earned her degree from the University of Debrecen, in Hungary and completed her residency at Wilson Regional Memorial Hospital in New York.

Inland supports new event to raise heating oil funds

Inland Hospital joins the United Way, Kennebec Behavioral Health, People’s United Bank, and Best Western Plus to sponsor a new event to help raise funds for heating oil for local people in need. The event, “ KEEPING HEARTS WARM COMEDY SHOW & FUNDRAISER ,” will be held on Saturday, February 11, 2012, at 8pm at the Best Western Plus in Waterville. All proceeds from ticket sales will benefit the Keeping Mid-Maine Warm Program and The Warming Center.
