Guiding Stars has arrived at Inland Hospital

Release Date: 09/27/2012

If you've been to the Inland Hospital Cafe you've probably seen stars; there is good reason for that! At Inland Hospital we have adopted the Guiding Stars nutrition rating program to provide our employees, visitors, and patients with the best nutritional information when making food choices.

The Guiding Stars system helps direct you to foods with the most nutrition per 100 calories by using a 0-3 star rating system. So the more nutritious a food is the more stars it has. The program uses an objective scientific algorithm that assigns credits for positive attributes, such as more vitamins, minerals, fiber, and whole grains, and debits for less desirable attributes, such as saturated fat, trans fat, cholesterol, and additional sodium and sugars.

Inland Hospital’s Guiding Stars program began on September 10, 2012. We have placed the Guiding Star Symbols on grab and go items as well as some on recipes that we will be incorporating from the Guiding Stars web site.
