Transforming Care at the Bedside

Over the past year, Inland Hospital has been involved with improving the quality of care provided by implementing Transforming Care at the Bedside (TCAB); this process engages nurses and other key hospital staff in testing improvements that can lead to processes and procedures that are more reliable, safe and patient-centered. This in turn leads to improved teamwork and a more engaged workforce, not to mention the most important goal – increasing nurse’s time at the bedside.

Inland’s TCAB Team’s first project was a “Clean Up” initiative, which was only one step in the TCAB project goal. Many staff members organized work areas and transformed those spaces into organized work space. Additionally, a team of volunteers visited Inland’s external storage space and donated some equipment that was no longer in use to Third World Organizations.

The goals set forth by the TCAB projects are designed to improve the quality, safety and reliability of patient care and reduce disparities in care; increase the vitality and retention of frontline nurses; improve the patient and family members’ experience of care; and to improve the effectiveness of the entire care team.
