United Way honors Inland

At its annual Campaign Celebration last week, the United Way of Mid Maine awarded Inland Hospital with the prestigious Diamond Club Award for extraordinary commitment and contribution to the United Way. Inland employees raised more than $37,000 for the United Way during their annual Employee Campaign this fall with 60% employee participation.

At the awards ceremony, United Way leaders praised Inland’s dedicated United Way committee which includes co-chairs Hope Pendexter and Sam Stafford, Angela Leary, Jen Curry, Jessica Maguire, June Allan, Nicole Robertson, Arlene Jones, Melanie Cunningham, Caroline Crowell, Bob Chapman, Stephanie Blair, Laura Gilbert-Caret, Judy Gray, and Crystal Richard.

AmeriCorps VISTA and Site Coordinator for Let’s Go! Kennebec

Inland Hospital welcomes Laura Howell as an AmeriCorps VISTA and Site Coordinator for Let’s Go! Kennebec, a non-profit organization whose mission is to prevent childhood obesity. During the coming year, Laura will implement the Let’s Go! program and 5-2-1-0 messages in healthcare practices, schools, after school programs, and childcare facilities in the greater-Waterville area to promote healthy eating, physical activity, and childhood wellness.

Inland Named as a Top Rural Hospital

For the third time in four years, The Leapfrog Group has named Inland Hospital in Waterville to its annual list of Top Rural Hospitals in the U.S. Three other EMHS hospitals (Blue Hill Memorial, Charles A. Dean Memorial in Greenville and SVH in Pittsfield) were also named to the list that recognizes hospitals for their outstanding safety and quality.

Meet Denise Bouchard, FNP-C

Inland Hospital welcomes Denise Bouchard, FNP-C, a Certified Family Nurse Practitioner to Inland Family Care in Unity. Bouchard joins Dr. Gavin Ducker, Dr. Charles Kriegel, and Susan Piotti, PA-C at the family practice, located at 80 Main Street in Unity.

Inland among Best Hospitals for Women

Inland Hospital has received the 2014 Women’s Choice Award® ranking among America’s Best Hospitals for Patient Experience in Obstetrics.   This marks the second consecutive year of earning this award. The distinction is the only award that identifies the country’s best healthcare institutions based on robust criteria that consider female patient satisfaction, clinical excellence, and what women say they want from a hospital, including quality physician communications, responsiveness of nurses and support staff, cleanliness and trusted referrals from other women. 

Inland practices receive Let's Go! awards

Inland Hospital is proud to announce that five of their Inland Family Care and New Horizons Health Care practices and their Diabetes & Nutrition Wellness Department have recently been recognized for promoting healthy eating and active living among their patient population.  The hospital-owned practices were among 15 healthcare sites in the EMHS system and 77 pediatric and family practices statewide to receive the LET’S GO! Healthcare Sites of Distinction award for their commitment to curb childhood obesity. Waterville Pediatrics also received the award.

Inland Awarded “A” Grade in Safety

Inland Hospital was honored with an “A” grade in the Fall 2013 update to the Hospital Safety Score, which rates how well hospitals protect patients from accidents, errors, injuries and infections. The Hospital Safety Score is compiled under the guidance of the nation’s leading experts on patient safety and is administered by The Leapfrog Group (Leapfrog), an independent industry watchdog. The first and only hospital safety rating to be analyzed in the peer-reviewed Journal of Patient Safety, the Score is designed to give the public information they can use to protect themselves and their families.

Inland Hospital presents its Fall Pops Concert

Inland Hospital presents its Fall Pops Concert with the Portland Symphony Orchestra and soprano, Suzanne Nance on Saturday, October 26 at the Waterville Opera House. Community Benefit funding available

Inland Hospital announces that it is now accepting applications for mini-grants through its Community Benefits Program. Inland's program was created to support community projects and organizations that help strengthen the Greater Waterville area and improve the overall health and well-being of local residents.

Inland Hospital’s Clinical Excellence

Inland Hospital has announced its Clinical Excellence Awards for 2013. The awards are an Inland tradition that celebrates and recognizes the work and talents of the finest professional clinical staff at the hospital. Nominations for the Clinical Excellence Award come from peers and winners are chosen for their clinical competency and excellence in customer service. This year’s Clinical Excellence Award winner is Don Goodale, Echocardiography Team Leader at Heart First Diagnostics. Tiffany Toulouse, a registered nurse in the Emergency Department is the winner of the Nursing Clinical Excellence Award.

Inland wins food award at The Taste

For the fifth year in a row, Inland Hospital won a food award at The Taste of Greater Waterville on August 7, 2013. This year, Inland received the “Best Dessert” honor for its Fresh Raspberry Tart, made by Inland and Lakewood’s Food Services Department.

Let’s Go! Family Fun Day event

Plans are in the making for the Let’s Go! Family Fun Day at Inland Hospital on Saturday, September 14, 2013 - the 2nd annual event kicking off a year-long series of activities focused on helping families with children lead healthy, active lives. Last year’s first-time event hosted nearly 500 area residents (145 families) for a day of active outdoor fun, quality family time, and learning about healthy lifestyle choices. 

Inland Among “Most Wired” Hospitals

Inland and five other EMHS hospitals are at the forefront of using information technology to improve patient care, based on the results of a 2013 survey published by the American Hospital Association. Eastern Maine Medical Center, Sebasticook Valley Hospital, and Blue Hill Memorial Hospital were recognized in the healthcare’s most wired category, and TAMC, Acadia Hospital, and Inland Hospital were honored in the most wired – small and rural category.

Roadside delivery leads to Inland Birthing Ctr

A couple from Jackman took an unplanned detour on the way to Inland Hospital on July 12 where they were planning to deliver their fourth child.

The adventure started when Jill and Chris Demanski left their home in Jackman for the two hour ride to Waterville. Jill’s contractions were about 12 minutes apart when she called the Inland Birthing Center to let the staff know they’d be arriving about 8am…but baby Michael didn’t feel like waiting – July 12 was his due date after all! Only 15 minutes from Inland Jill told her husband he needed to stop the car. Chris called On-Star, the car’s safety communication system, and pulled into a driveway in Fairfield - he barely had enough time to get around to the passenger side to help deliver his first son. The couple has three daughters, ages three, five, and 11.

Inland recognized for Workplace Well-Being

Inland Hospital is among 11 employers in central Maine recognized for working to improve the health of their employees.

The Waterville area employers received the first annual Workplace Well-Being recognition at the Mid-Maine Chamber’s Business Breakfast in May at Thomas College. The Augusta area employers were recognized at the Kennebec Chamber Business Breakfast in April.

Inland grants $50K to community

Inland Hospital is proud to announce its Community Benefit mini grant recipients for 2013. This year Inland has contributed more than $50,000 in funding to organizations working to improve health and quality of life in the Greater Waterville area.

Inland Earns “A” for Safety

Inland Hospital in Waterville has been recognized with an “A” Hospital Safety Score by The Leapfrog Group, an independent national nonprofit run by employers and other large purchasers of health benefits. The A score was awarded in the latest update to the Hospital Safety ScoreSM . The A, B, C, D or F scores assigned to U.S. hospitals are based on preventable medical errors, injuries accidents, and infections.
