AmeriCorps VISTA and Site Coordinator for Let’s Go! Kennebec

Release Date: 12/16/2013

Inland Hospital welcomes Laura Howell as an AmeriCorps VISTA and Site Coordinator for Let’s Go! Kennebec, a non-profit organization whose mission is to prevent childhood obesity. During the coming year, Laura will implement the Let’s Go! program and 5-2-1-0 messages in healthcare practices, schools, after school programs, and childcare facilities in the greater-Waterville area to promote healthy eating, physical activity, and childhood wellness.

While at Inland, Laura will work to accomplish goals that include increasing the number of registered Let’s Go! school and healthcare sites, expanding Let’s Go! Kennebec to the Gardiner, Winthrop, and Hallowell regions of Kennebec County and helping all of her sites reach at least one major goal for the year. Laura hopes to make a long-term positive impact in Kennebec County, and is extremely excited to join the warm and welcoming Waterville community!

Laura grew up in Livermore, Maine then attended Mount Holyoke College in South Hadley, Massachusetts where she earned a BA in Cultural Anthropology and Food Studies. In her spare time she enjoys reading, going to the ocean, being active (running, kayaking, hiking and playing sports), cooking, photography, gardening, and traveling.  Laura can be reached at lhowell@emhs.org or 861-3293.
