It’s Tick Time!

Tick season is upon us and we must all equip ourselves with knowledge (and longer pants) so we can continue to enjoy the benefits and beauty of the Maine wilderness. Protect yourself from deer ticks and Lyme disease at all times by taking these actions which may help prevent tick bites:
  • Wear lightly colored clothing and tuck pant legs into socks.
  • Use a DEET-based repellent on skin and clothing or a permethrin-based repellent on clothes only.
  • Inspect yourself closely after being outdoors and then again in a few hours.
  • Take a shower and wash clothes soon after coming indoors since the heat from drying will kill any ticks in your clothing.
