Helping you prepare for your labor of love

The Birthing Center at Inland Hospital is pleased to offer ongoing education and support for expectant parents. Our Prepared Childbirth Program consists of a one-day Saturday workshop for first-time parents. Parents, who have already experienced childbirth but want a refresher, are invited to attend the workshop as well. All classes are held in a relaxed, caring environment that is conducive to learning and sharing.

Location: Ford Grant Conference Room - Inland Hospital (Unless indicated otherwise)

Workshop overview: 9-3pm (Saturday Class)

What to expect:

• Introduction to prepared childbirth, labor process, stages of labor, breathing, relaxation, breaking the pain/tension/fear cycle.
• Stages of labor, birth video, positions for labor, massage, breathing, and relaxation.
• Medical interventions, medications, caesarian sections, breathing and relaxation, labor and delivery video.
• Comfort measures, birth plan, what to bring to the hospital, emergency delivery, breathing and relaxation, caesarean birth, post-partum care.
• Breastfeeding, basic baby care, newborn appearance, pediatrician and lactation consultant visit.

Space is limited - expectant mothers should register in fifth or sixth month of pregnancy so that class completion is approximately three to four weeks before due date. A support person is welcome and encouraged to attend the class. Please feel free to bring a snack. Water will be provided.

The cost of the program is $45.00. This includes all materials. Most insurance companies will not cover childbirth education classes (including MaineCare).  However, those that do may require a referral from your obstetrical provider; please check with your insurance company. We will be happy to sign any insurance form you may have.
