# Inland patients with a central line without documentation of IHI elements of care - Graph and Details

The Institute for Healthcare Improvement (IHI) has established standards for the process of placing a central line. The elements are: Clean hands before putting on gloves; Wear a sterile gown; Wear a mask; Wear sterile gloves; Wear a cap; Use a large sterile sheet that covers the patient head to toe; Use a disinfecting swab on the skin; and Use the large vein near the collar bone whenever possible. Documentation that the line is clinically necessary is also required daily.
